For Sponsored accounts, when your Sponsor Program ends — for example, when you move, start working, or stop receiving benefits — your Yoursafe ABC Account is no longer managed by your Sponsor.
Your card and account will still work for a short time, but you will need a new personal Yoursafe account if you want to keep using Yoursafe.
What happens when your Sponsor Program ends
- Your current Yoursafe card and PIN still work until your balance is €0.
- You can continue to use your card to spend the remaining money.
- Your old Sponsor can no longer send payments to your account.
Once your sponsorship ends, your account becomes inactive — it is no longer connected to any Sponsor or program.
Opening a personal Yoursafe account
If you would like to keep using Yoursafe after your Sponsor Program ends, you can open a new personal Yoursafe account directly through Yoursafe.
To open a new account:
- Visit www.yoursafe.com
- Follow the instructions to register as a new customer
- Verify your identity when asked
- Use a different email address than the one used for your Sponsor account — your old email is linked to that account and cannot be reused.
- Once verified, you will receive your new Yoursafe card and PIN
This new account is independent — it will not be linked to your old Sponsor account.
Acceptable forms of identification
When you open your new Yoursafe account, you must verify your identity to meet EU financial regulations.
You can use one of the following documents:
- Passport (any country)
- National ID card (EU or EEA member states)
- Residence permit issued by an EU or EEA country
- German Aufenthaltstitel (residence card) or asylum ID (if applicable)
⚠️ Important: The Anlaufbescheinigung (initial registration certificate) is not accepted as an identity document when opening a personal Yoursafe account.
This document does not meet European banking or identification standards.
Your ID must be valid and show your full name, date of birth, and photo.
You may also be asked to take a selfie or video to confirm your identity matches your ID document.
Important information
- It is not possible to upgrade your old Sponsor account to a personal account.
- You must create a new account if you want to continue using Yoursafe.
- You will need a new email address when registering your personal account.
- Your old account will stay active only until your balance is used.
